This shot was taken while cross-country skiing on a frozen Lake Ontario, between Kingston and Wolfe Island. We happened across this Snow Owl that, from a distance, looked like a rock perched on the snow covered ice. Intrigued how a rock could have made it to the middle of the frozen lake, we made our way closer and were quite surprised when the 'rock' sprouted wings and quickly took flight (we were still about 50m away). What a sight! While no energy solution is perfect, the contrast between wild and the man made wind turbines in the distance highlight the demands humans place on our environment, showing how cleaner energy production can coexist with nature.
